The world of entertainment has done it again. When it seems the boundaries of what is acceptable have been overstepped as far as they can go, evil raises its ugly head once again to show us we were mistaken.
The latest arrival to shock Christians and flaunt demonic flirtation is a rapper who has produced a shoe design that glorifies Satan. “Satan Shoes” are limited to 666 pairs, boasting a design of a pentagram, an inverted cross, and a drop of real human blood.
With so many things wrong with this picture, which is more disturbing: the details of the shoes, knowing they purposely lift up Satan? Or the fact that the 666 pairs of limited edition $1018 shoes sold out in less than one minute?

The Company

The company behind producing the shoes, MSCHF (which stands for Miscellaneous Mischief), is a company that pushes boundaries and holds nothing reverent. That fact became quite apparent in recent news, following the Satan Shoes. Unfortunately, the behaviors of those promoting such ungodliness are not harmless antics to every individual. Paired with a style of music that is popular among young people, the message being shared is doing more than simply affecting its listeners. It’s having an impact and plays a part in indoctrinating them.

Power of Music

While music can do the same for adults, the minds of our children are more impressionable as they are growing in their own knowledge of the Lord. Putting a horrible message into a song with a “cool” beat has a way of luring pliable minds into questioning what they are learning about their Savior. The fact is, so much entertainment is not solely to amuse us for a few hours a week. There is an agenda, and it isn’t a godly one. Worldly entertainment can convince men, women, and children that flirting with sin is kind of fun, or that it really isn’t any big deal since God is so loving.

Most of the time that is evident on social media, where those claiming their allegiance to God are also comfortable sharing jokes that should make a Christian blush. Indulging in evil entertainment can desensitize us to what displeases God. While the aforementioned is sin, the rest is sin as well. Humans tend to put different sins on different parts of a scale that measure their “badness”, but all sins can send us to hell, such as what we see in Revelation 21:8: “But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”

Signs of the Time

This is an example of the day and age we are living in. It’s a time when you can share the most vulgar things on social media yet are silenced on other topics that don’t fit a narrative.
This day and age we live in is not the time where we should allow ourselves to become lax in our diligence with our children and our relationship with God. Romans 1: 21-32 speaks about unrighteous men, which also shares a clear message for us today: “For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever…For this reason, God gave them up to dishonorable passions…And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.

Self Worship

We can see the warning for men who worship self over God, and where it leads them. Just as importantly, we can see that those who enjoy the actions of the godless are also guilty! What type of message does our music portray? What types of videos are we enjoying for entertainment? The video associated with the Satan Shoes is clearly a hater of God, haughty and faithless to say the least. We’ve got to be diligent about protecting our homes and families from the things that could become their downfall. A fun musical beat, a message wrapped in comedy, or anything else that confuses the message of what is good and what is evil needs to be removed from our lives completely.
2 Timothy 3:1-5 tells us, “But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.”

What Christians Must Do

As Christians, we don’t need to present a watered-down message for those who are lost. God is looking to transform lives, not to soothe souls that are on their way to hell. When we are full of His Spirit, the fruit should be evident and working as we share His truth in love, gentleness, and kindness.
The idea of judging others has caused many Christians to be afraid of saying anything at all. However, there is a difference between being judgmental and being critical. Judging between right and wrong can be done without being critical of the one who is trapped in the bondage of sin.

Time Is Short

Time is short. The day will come sooner than we think to meet our Savior. Whether that be today, tomorrow, next year, or in ten years, the power of the Holy Ghost needs to be working in our lives. We have no time to spare.
“Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” 2 Corinthians 6:2

Update:

Nike distanced itself from LilNas and the shoes; and sues MSCHF, the maker of the shoes, for trademark infringement. Nike states they did not endorse the shoes.
