A community in Minneapolis recently suffered as a result of looting amidst Black Live Matter protests. Numerous businesses, shops, grocery stores, basic necessity stores, and many more were robbed and burned.

Sanford Middle School took the initiative to send out emails to staff and others to reach out to friends and family asking for donations to be dropped off at the school in an attempt to start the rebuilding process.

The hope was to reach 85 to 100 bags, however, the response was overwhelming and gradually the bags kept increasing. They stopped counting when they realized they had surpassed 30,000 bags.

Sanford Middle School Principal Amy Nelson told CNN; “Donations covered every inch of the ground of our parking lot, the grass, everywhere. We had to also use a neighboring park because we didn’t have enough space here at the school to stack it up.”

School staff, parents, students, and even the neighborhoods came forward to help and showed immense support to communities and areas affected by the protests.

Donation

Every organizer including a few outsiders helped in sorting the grocery bags and several items were still left even after they were done distributing to all the needy citizens in this Minneapolis community. Hundreds of families benefitted and were relieved from worries of starving.

Nelson further told CNN, “We still don’t know how much we received. It was so much more than we needed, and it just kept going up. The line of cars bringing donations went for blocks and blocks in every direction from the school. And they just kept coming”.

Many reporters and news channels covered the news. It was an epitome of generosity. “Families were so grateful to get the supplies they needed. Tears of joy and gratitude”, Nelson ecstatically expressed.
