“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” James 1:5

Of all the things we can acquire in our lifetimes, wisdom is certainly one of the most valuable. It is the knowledge gained from experience. The gem of wisdom gives the ability to make good judgments. What a beautiful gem it is!
Many of us can think of an elderly gentleman or elderly lady we know and get a chance to talk to from time to time. Their demeanor is one of deeper thoughts and fewer words. They carry themselves carefully. They speak with caution and sensible advice. Love is expressed in their actions and words. And from watching their ways, we sense that they have a great deal of wisdom. Many of us can look on, and desire to be just like them as we get older.

Wisdom Benefits

The beautiful thing about wisdom is that God offers it generously to those who desire to have it. If we heed the advice and wise words from the Bible, that is one way that our own wisdom will begin to grow. Additionally, and often, we can gain wisdom through situations that are all around us. If we will take the time to think about situations and scenarios we see every day, our wisdom will grow. We can glean wisdom by judging whether something was handled in a good way or bad way. Gain wisdom by tucking tidbits of those memories in our minds to save for the day we need them. We can further learn to be wise by learning from those who have faced situations we have yet to encounter. Proverbs 19:20 says, “Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future.”

Wisdom Gives

Additionally, Proverbs 12:15 tells us that, “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice.”
Wisdom is given generously and paves the way to an easier journey as our years go by. Thank God for this generous gift and may we all gain it and use it daily!
