The same filmmakers who were behind the faith-based hits War Room and Overcomer will release their next movie, Lifemark, in theaters on September 9, spotlighting the subject of adoption by focusing on two families brought together by the birth of a baby.

The film’s trailer shows Cameron’s character learning that he and his wife have been matched with a birth mom who needs to place her baby with another family.

“We got the call. We have a son,” he says.

Lifemark follows the growth of that adopted son, David, to his high school years, when he is given the option of meeting his birth mom, a woman named Melissa.

“He is adopted” by a family “who could not have their own children,” Alex Kendrick says in a featurette.

“He was raised for 18 years. And Melissa reached out to him at that age, and he agreed to meet her in person,” he said.

Although Melissa believes her biological son “hates her guts,” the opposite turns out to be true, says Stephen Kendrick, who himself is an adoptive father.

“It is such a beautiful thing when our hearts start beating along with God’s heart in valuing the orphan and caring for them,” Stephen Kendrick says. “God is a father to the fatherless, and He places the lonely into families. He created not only the family, but He created adoption.

Cameron, who is also an adoptive father, says the film includes multiple biblical themes.

“This movie is pro-family. It’s pro-love. It’s pro-forgiveness. It’s pro-reconciliation and new beginnings,” Cameron says.

The movie, Alex Kendrick says, will give the audience “an inspirational view of a life that was saved and how that life turned out.”

It also stars Marisa Hampton, Alex Kendrick, Rebecca Rogers, Dawn Long, Raphael Ruggero and Justin Sterner.

“We believe Lifemark will inspire countless people and churches at this pivotal time to get more involved in supporting life and adoption,” Stephen Kendrick said in a news release. “This movie has something for everyone. It’s inspirational, entertaining, and also life-changing.”
