According to a recent court filing, the husband of Proverbs 31 Ministries founder Lysa TerKeurst spent more than $100,000 on an “illicit sexual” extramarital affair with a woman he met online.

Lysa first announced that she was divorcing Art in 2017 due to substance abuse issues and for having an affair with a woman he met online. The couple, however, called off their divorce and actually renewed their vows in 2018.

The couple is now pursuing divorce again.

According to Ministry Watch, in February, Art filed a response to the second divorce petition and requested post-separation support, alimony, an equitable division of property, damages and the rescission of a post-nuptial agreement.

In the filing, Art claimed that when he signed the post-nuptial agreement with Lysa, he was under duress because he was struggling with suicidal thoughts and preparing to enter an alcoholism treatment facility. Additionally, he argued that the post-nuptial agreement was invalidated as part of the couple’s “fresh start” after completing treatment and renewing their vows.

Despite admitting that he engaged in “illicit sexual behavior” before signing the post-nuptial agreement, Art contended that he had been a “faithful and dutiful spouse” since signing the contract. In his request for post-separation support, Art explained he is “actually and substantially dependent upon [his] wife for his maintenance and support” and that he is unable to make the “financial ability or adequate resources” needed to meet his desired standards of living.

Lysa, however, refuted her former husband’s claims during a motion in April. As reported by Ministry Watch, Lysa entered a motion to refute Art’s counterclaims, respond to his allegations, and request a compel arbitration.

In her filing, Lysa said that both the post-separation support and alimony should be denied because of Art’s infidelity and noted that they both “maintained completely separate financial accounts pursuant to the post-nuptial agreement” even after reconciling.

According to The Christian Post, the filing revealed text messages between Art TerKeurst and “Mistress X,” whom he allegedly met on SugarDaddy.com. He reportedly spent $118,000 of the TerKeurts’ money on the extramarital affair. The expenses included paying for the mistress to move from Atlanta to Charlotte, North Carolina (near his home) and purchasing a “pre-engagement left-hand ring” for her.
