The special event, inspired by the recent hit film “Jesus Revolution,” occurred on Saturday. The movie, released in February, highlights the origin of the 1970s Jesus Movement revival.
In a recent interview with Faithwire, Harvest Christian Fellowship Pastor Greg Laurie shared that an 85-year-old man was among those baptized.
“At one point, the line really got slowed down because an older couple — the gentleman was 85 years old — was taking longer to get down the stairs,” Laurie explained. “But when we met him, his story was so amazing because he watched the movie at 85 years old and accepted Jesus into his life.”
Laurie noted that the man accepted Christ after seeing the film.
“His family said, ‘We never, ever thought he would come to Christ,'” Laurie said.
The pastor also shared that the elderly man’s baptism proves that “it’s never too late” for someone to turn to Christ.
“Never give up on people,” he added. “Never stop praying for people.”
As Christian Headlines previously reported, last month, roughly 20,000 people attended the baptism event at Pirate’s Cove during the 50th anniversary of the Jesus movement. At the event, dubbed “the biggest water baptism in history,” 4,500 people were baptized in the ocean.
“It was really overwhelming,” he said. “There was a line of people a half mile long to get into the cove because we have one staircase. So, we have to take people down, baptize them, send them back up and have more people come down, and so it’s logistically really challenging,” Laurie concluded.
