On our show, “What’s Going on in Israel,” A~Z and I have been studying the Enemies of God as listed in Psalm 83. This study has grown into something much bigger than I anticipated when we first had the leading from the Lord to embark on this adventure. Each week look at one of the ten peoples listed in that particular Psalm and learn about their genealogy in scripture. Where they settled as a people, how they interacted with Israel, who they worshipped, and where/who they are today. Tuned in to SAVED News TV on Roku, Amazon FireTV, or our social media platforms.

Most of these peoples in Psalm 83 ceased to be civilizations with kings and princes of their own during the Roman empire, yet I’ve been rather amazed to see how directly the events of ancient times have implicated how the various peoples still relate to Israel even today. The best example of this comes from our study on the Ammonites.

This people group was born out of the incest between Lot (Abraham’s nephew) and his second daughter, after fleeing from Sodom and Gomorrah, assuming their father was the only man left. These were Canaanite cities where sexual sin and idolatry abounded, so their actions probably were not unusual for the culture where they had lived.  The son born of this union was named Ben-Ammi (son of my people), and his descendants became the Ammonites. They settled east of the Jordan River, and Amman, Jordan, named for them, was the location of their historic capital city.

The Ammonites worshipped the false god, Molech, and in vile practices that included open sexual sin, would offer child sacrifices in his name. This is repeatedly condemned in scripture, and Israel was given commands to not intermarry with these people. As history unfolded, however, King Solomon took an Ammonite wife, Naama, and built a temple to Molech in the Ben-Hinnom Valley, where Israel defiled themselves and the land by participating in this worship of demons by passing their children through the fire.

As a consequence of this, the Lord spoke to Solomon that Israel would be divided into two kingdoms during the reign of his son from his Ammonite wife, Rehoboam. Hear this: It is for the shedding of innocent blood, the practice of child sacrifice, that Israel and Judah were divided. We still haven’t seen the prophecy of the two kingdoms being reunited fully fulfilled up to today, as we continue to bring all Israel home, and contend to annex Judea and Samaria into Israel’s political borders.

We have allowed this sin He hates to continue in the form of abortion, and we wonder why our nations and our families are divided at present. Child sacrifice is the spiritual root behind Israel’s division, so why wouldn’t abortion be the spiritual root behind the contention and division we are experiencing today? I stand in reverent fear of the Lord’s justice that will come. Please find the replay for the full teaching, and together, let’s repent before the Lord.
