” The World Is Moving Fast”
It’s amazing how fast the world is moving. On the day of penning this article, AZ and I record our show “What’s going on in Israel” where I shared about the experience we’ve had with our children entering into quarantine from school, one child a week for three weeks! We talked about how this policy was not sustainable. Just hours later, the announcement came in a live press conference that instead of requiring children to enter quarantine with an exposure to the virus, now they would be required to have an antigen test twice a week: on Mondays and Sundays. This is not a decision I’m on board with.
Over the summer we saw our government make big declarations about school policies, only for them all to be ruled illegal, or fall through for other reasons. As a student of history, I’m hoping that this will hold true for the current decision. If it doesn’t, though, what do we do? We certainly will not test our children twice a week, but we love the Messianic school our children attend.
As I think this through with thousands of questions in my mind, I’m reminded of one of my favorite verses:
You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock. Isaiah 26:3-4
Even as the world shifts all around us, the Lord is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He is an everlasting rock. He is unchanging, even when our routines change because of policy changes.
Working this out, however, has been a true exercise of faith muscles over the last two years. With this new information, I have to remember the ways the Lord has met us through this long season of constant changes. We’ve often had hard decisions to make and hard conversations to have, but He’s shown us what to do, every time.
This type of “remembrance” is a discipline encouraged in the book of Deuteronomy, where the Lord instructs Israel to remember the ways He acted on their behalf. Most often, they are encouraged to remember all that He did to bring them out of slavery in Egypt (5:15, 7:12, 15:15 are just a few examples). Other times they are encouraged to remember how the Lord used circumstances to test their hearts and shape their character (8:2, 9:7, 9:27).
Revisiting testimonies of faith can definitely help us reorient our focus on the Lord rather than our circumstances. He did bring Israel out of Egypt, and He will bring us out of this Egypt as well. He did give us favor on other decisions we’ve had to make within the pressing policies our government has instituted, and He will do it again. Not only that, but we’ll grow in Him through this process. He always works everything for the good of those called according to His purpose.
Please pray for the children in Israel and for me personally as we walk through whatever is coming next!
