Pro-family advocate Tony Perkins says “urgent” prayer is needed for President-elect Trump as he chooses his cabinet and appoints key leaders who will surround him in the White House for the next four years. Christians, Perkins said, must pray that Trump picks individuals who will provide wise counsel. Perkins is president of the Family Research Council.

“Urgent prayer is needed,” Perkins wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “As President-elect Donald Trump selects his cabinet and administration, pray that he will surround himself with godly counsel. As Proverbs 11:14 states, ‘Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors there is safety.'”

On his Washington Watch podcast, Perkins said Trump “is already making key appointments” and needs prayer. The Family Research Council this week launched “Operation Prayer Shield,” a 10-week prayer initiative for leaders and the country.

“We believe that this season calls for heightened spiritual vigilance, discernment, and unity,” Perkins said.

The Senate must confirm more than 1,200 Trump appointees.

“Pray for the incoming administration, the outgoing administration, this window in between, that our nation would be protected,” Perkins said.

A “lot of foolishness,” Perkins said, can take place during a lame-duck session of Congress.

“We need to be praying for the president that he gets the right team together — godly men and women — that will provide godly counsel,” Perkins said.

House Speaker Mike Johnson told Perkins that the Republican-controlled chamber is ready to implement the Trump agenda.

“The bottom line is, I think in the first 100 days of the agenda, first 100 days in the new Congress, beginning in early January, we’ll be able to take the field and start putting points on the board early,” Johnson said. “… We will make President Trump, and I believe this next Congress, the most consequential of the modern era.”
