One of the most beautiful things we will experience in this journey of life is love. While love is an emotion, we can’t see it with our eyes. Or can we?
When we look at a grandmother holding her newborn grandchild, we can see love. When we see a father embrace his military son who has just returned home from overseas, we see love.
Love can be seen through actions, and when we look into the Word of God, we can see how the actions of love have a bit of a snowball effect, and the results are the purest beauty that we can find on this earth.
“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
Before we ever knew Him, God loved us. He wanted us. He was committed to saving us. When we were in the depths of sin, He looked on us with compassion. Our filthy, dirty, humiliating sins never changed God’s mind about us because He loved us.
“And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” Matthew 22:37
When Jesus walked among us two thousand years ago, He shared His love and compassion with His creation, and mankind loved Him back. He ate with the publicans and sinners because He loved them. Some felt they had no need for this man Jesus, but then there were others like us. His actions toward the needy human race who knew they needed Him loved Him back.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love…” Galatians 5:22
Jesus let His disciples know that He would be sending the Promise to them, the Comforter, the gift of the Holy Ghost. After His resurrection, He began pouring His Spirit out on mankind. The Spirit of the living God would now dwell in the hearts of men and women who loved Him. God is love, and His Spirit in us loves.
“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.” 1 John 4:7
The Lord has known the heart of every living human being from the beginning of time. He has seen those who were brought up nurtured and loved, and also those who were uncared for and the throw-aways of society. When each of those souls fell in love with Him, He put His Spirit in them, deepening the love of the nurtured ones, and introducing His love to those who never knew what pure love felt like, and causing that love to spread to others.
What a beautiful gift that love is to all of us. And what an amazing gift that love is when it is from God. We have so much to be thankful for when we love and are loved by our wonderful Savior.
