First Baptist Dallas Pastor Robert Jeffress denounced Democratic U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico’s beliefs as “blasphemous” and “evil” during the second night of the Republican National Committee’s midterm convention in Dallas.
Speaking Thursday at the American Airlines Center, the megachurch pastor said that while he disagrees that “all Republicans are saints,” he considered the Democratic Party to be “advocates for evil.”
“There is a difference between falling into sin and being an advocate for sin,” Jeffress declared. “The Democrat Party advocates for evil; they are advocates for sin, and we need to call it that way.”
“For we know deep down that God has given every leader, including our great President Donald Trump — He’s given Donald Trump not just the right, but the responsibility to protect our nation from evildoers, whether they come from without or within our own country.”
Jeffress then turned his focus on Talarico, who is running against Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton for a seat in the U.S. Senate representing the Lone Star State.
“James Talarico believes there is a spectrum of genders, but in Matthew 19, Jesus said there are only two genders, ‘male and female,’” Jeffress said. “James Talarico believes that all religions are equally valid and are simply different truths or different paths up the same mountain of truth.”
“But Jesus Christ disagrees with James Talarico. In John 14:6, Jesus said, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the Father but by me.’ James Talarico describes himself as ‘a Christian who hates Christianity.’ And perhaps he was telling the truth about that.”
Jeffress stated that “the beliefs of James Talarico” were “more than wrong,” calling them “blasphemous,” “evil” and “not beliefs that any true Christian could support ever.”
“We must condemn the beliefs of James Talarico,” the pastor stated.In June, Trump announced on Truth Social that there would be a midterm convention in Dallas, the first-ever such event in GOP history.
“We are going to celebrate the GREAT AMERICAN COMEBACK, and the incredible successes of the American People who transformed our Country through the America First Agenda,” stated Trump.
The Texas GOP has promoted the convention as an “unprecedented event” that “will serve as a national celebration of American exceptionalism, freedom, opportunity, and prosperity.”
For their part, Democrat leaders have launched various responses to the convention, with multiple House Democrats traveling to Dallas to counterprogram the gathering.
“While swing-seat House Republicans try to hide from their record of raising costs on working families, gutting Medicaid to fund tax breaks for billionaire donors and supporting a reckless war of choice in Iran, House Democrats will be present to hold them accountable,” Democratic House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said, according to The Hill.
For his part, Talarico is holding a statewide charity event called the “Love Thy Neighbor” food drive as a counter to the midterm convention.
On Wednesday evening, Trump addressed the midterm convention, promising that all American citizens will receive a $5,000 “Trump dividend” if Republicans maintain control of Congress.
