Events all around us make it feel like the world is going crazy! While there will be some of us who desire to draw even closer to the Lord, there will be others among us who are tired and feel worn out, wondering if they should “throw in the towel.” We feel like the devil is going to win the battle set before us because we’re just not strong enough. Whether it is for a particular situation or life in general, life gets heavy, and we get tired.

Does it even matter anymore?

The answer is a resounding YES!
There are seasons in life when we feel like every attempt at normalcy and peace is thwarted by chaos and turmoil. Job layoffs, overdue bills, out of control family feuds, health scares, and misunderstandings between friends; whatever the issue, it’s real and wearisome. A little voice inside of us tries to convince us that the pressure will ease once we lay aside our spiritual attempts to survive, and give up.
No matter what the little whispers from the enemy try to tell us, even in times of great discouragement, we can still come out of our depressing seasons with secure footing and determination for a brighter tomorrow.

How?

1. Remember that it is only a season, not a life sentence. Seasons change, and better days will come.
2. Examine all of our circumstances and realize that God is not the reason for the problems. Life is life. Non-believers have problems too. Even so, as Christians, we are blessed to have someone we can talk to about our problems, and who is also able to change our situations.
3. Remember why we started and where we are going. When our focus was clear, we had no questions as to what our goal was. Our minds may be foggy from being overwhelmed, but the goal is still there, and our reasons for reaching it remain the same.
4. Consider the big picture. If we throw in the towel today, how will our tomorrow look? How will it look a year from now? Five years from now? If we throw in the towel, will it help our children? Will it affect the people we’ve been trying to share the goodness of God?

Faux Picture

Satan may paint us a pretty picture of all that he tries to promise us smooth sailing ahead, greater peace, and more. His picture may seem realistic for a few days, but the pretty colors will fade, and we will become aware that he is still a liar.
Our greatest example of victory is from our one and only Savior. He didn’t want to go through the horrible death that was in His near future. Even so, He saw the big picture and knew that redemption for the souls of men would be available because of His sacrifice for mankind. He didn’t turn around when hard times were ahead. And because of our Savior not “throwing in the towel” over 2,000 years later, victory is still here today.
Who is depending on us, even unknowingly? Friends, we can make it! Keep the big picture in focus!
